early press

First international press began in the late 80's, early 90's from the UK, Japan, and Germany in the form of interview features in photography, graphic arts and culture magazines.  One common thread was the question if Kern's work was art or commerce, both, or if it was possible to be both.  Other writers found it curious that Kern did not work out of an international city such as New York or London (he began his career in Dallas where one writer in the UK imagined his studio surrounded by tumbleweeds).
