Before making this series Kern was given two directives: 1) to make the series about "water" and 2) to not spend

much money because Japan was in a recession and Matsuda was almost broke.  To comply Kern photographed literally in his own backyard and

created scenes in his studio and darkroom using special techniques he developed in the late 80's and early 90's (before photoshop)

including collage, multiple exposure in camera and in the darkroom, vowing "the grand finale, the last time I do it"
