From two projects for the men's division of Matsuda, Mons. Nicole, with head fashion designer Yukio Kobayashi. Each project consists of between 20-30 images of fashion and peripheral art, the ideas of which were given to Kern to develop.
Other photographers who contributed to Kobayashi's collection series include Jan Saudek, Bruce Weber, Juergen Teller, Nadir, and Nan Goldin, which ran from the late 80's to the early 90's. Because of this time period very little is reported about Kobayashi's artist collaborations on the internet today.
These are a few examples from two series Kern photographed, the first in Paris, and the second in Portugal. These two projects, plus a third Kern photographed in 1993, were critically acclaimed in the press and by institutions such as The International Center of Photography (ICP), New York.
