When the famous Japanese department store Takashimaya decided to open a flagship store on 5th Avenue New York in 1993 Kern was asked to photograph the inaugural advertising campaign, which consisted of a series of five full page ads in the New York Times, followed by various mailer books which contained product photography.  Store merchandise was imported from Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.  Shown here, as example, are English comforter sets, flatware from Italy, bronze leaf pins, antique Japanese bowls, heritage glassware from England, furniture, etc.

Takashimaya closed on 5th Avenue in 2010.
